Recently, I found that the Minimum Technical Requirements for Oracle EnterpriseOne to be a little difficult to track down.
So I thought I should create a post about it here so that I don’t have to waste a bunch of time looking for it.
If I remember I did this, anyway.

I was reading through the latest JDETips Journal this morning and found a great article about configuring email notifications within EnterpriseOne. A great article by Mike Wright.
We have had email notification configured for quite awhile. We use it for both batch job notifications and workflow messages. However, we hadn’t set it up for object notification… yet.
After going through the article and following the set-by-step instructions I configured the object notification to email me when ever a project status was changed from a 26 to a 28. It was really easy and a great way to keep an eye on what the development staff was doing.
Then, I tried to configure another notification to email me when a project status changed from a 21 to a 26. I received the following error: Notification Already Exists.
According to the error, the "From Status" and the "To Status" fields should be included in the primary key of table F9829. However, after looking at the table in Table Design Aid, I found that the field OMWOSS2 is not part of the key.
I also found that there isn’t an ESU to resolve this issue. I submitted a case to Oracle EnterpriseOne Support, but I would assume that it will have a pretty low priority.
UPDATE: I have been notified by Oracle E1 Tech Support that SAR 8644652 (you must have an Oracle support ID to follow the link) addresses this issue. Essentially, they know about it and has a status of: 17 – Plan or Research. This SAR was entered on 10-22-2007.

Filed under: EnterpriseOne - General, EnterpriseOne - JAS (Java Application Server)
The ESI JDE Menu Gadget is another innovative little piece of software from Alexander Pastuhov at Everest Software International for Oracle EnterpriseOne (E1).
Essentially, it provides a way for users to quickly and easily navigate to their most used applications using a desktop gadget or web site active X control. It uses the "parameterized URL" available in JAS installations with a Tools Release level of 8.96.E1 or newer.
This could be very handy in the areas of a business that has users that only use a very specific limited number of applications. By default the gadget can be configured to list 5 destinations. However, this can be modified in a custom build option of the gadget.
It would be interesting to see what price ESI has established for this gadget. I’m sure, like all ESI’s offerings, the price will be worth it.

Filed under: EnterpriseOne - General, IBM i/System i/iSeries/AS400
Unfortunately, we have users that like to use other applications to access our Oracle JD Edwards EnterpriseOne (E1) data. I say, "unfortunately", because when users view data outside the application, you never really know if what they are looking at is really what they want to see. Of course, this is dependant on the expertise of the user.
Anyway, we found a limitation on one of our users favorite little helper applications, Microsoft Access. There is a limit to the number of indexes a file can have that MS Access links to. That limit is 32. Which, in most cases is plenty. Our F06116 has 32 indexes, but was still not able to be linked to. I think it is because MS Access counts the actual file as one of the indexes.
Hope this helps someone else dealing with Oracle JDEdwards EnterpriseOne (E1) file access with Microsoft Access.
Here are some other Microsoft Access limitations.

E1 Terminology
Speaking the language is key to becoming a knowledgeable Oracle EnterpriseOne (E1) administrator.
So here are a few key terms:
- CNC – Configurable Network Computing. This term was used by JD Edwards to describe the flexibility of OneWorld’s architecture.
- Pathcode/Central Objects – code repository
- PD811, PY811, DV811, PS811
- Environment – Pathcode + Data
- PD – Production
- PY – Prototype, Test, CRP
- DV – Development
- PS – Pristine
- Package – compiled code; collection of C++ DLLs
- “Full” – contains all objects in the specified Environment’s Pathcode
- “Update” – contains only the objects specified while defining the package
- eGen – converting object specifications to serialized objects
- Serialized objects – code read by the JAS server to present the User Interface
- “Fat-Client” – EnterpriseOne (E1) Windows Client

Introduction to Oracle EnterpriseOne (E1)
Technically I guess the name should be Oracle JD Edwards EnterpriseOne (E1). How’s that for a name. Anyway, the main system that I work on during the day is EnterpriseOne (E1). It is what my employer uses for their ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning – a fancy name for accounting) system.
It was originally a JD Edwards product called OneWorld (the new version of JDE’s very stable product “World”). Then JD Edwards was purchased by PeopleSoft to try and avert a take-over by Oracle and was named EnterpriseOne (E1) (combining PeopleSoft’s product name, “Enterprise”, with “OneWorld”). However, in the end, Mr. Ellison won the battle to acquire PeopleSoft, which resulted in the name JD Edwards EnterpiseOne.
Ok, enough with the name…
Currently, we have two installations with the following configurations:

Although 70-270 or 646-204 is not a prerequisite in 70-620 or the proceeding advanced exams like 220-601 and 70-649, but eventually one suffers because of ill preparation in SY0-101.

My name is Stewart Schatz. I have been working with EnterpriseOne (E1) or previous versions of it for about 5 years. It’s been a very challenging and frustrating 5 years.
I live in a very small town north of Bismarck, ND called Wilton. My family and I love it. It has a population of about 750. No I didn’t forget any zeros. It really is just 750. Anyway, I am a definite “Tech-guy”, or geek as my family and friends like to say. I personally take that as a compliment.
Anyway, I work in Bismarck for a company that uses Oracle EnterpriseOne (E1) as it’s ERP system.
Over the years, it has been very hard to find information about the systems that I work on, so usually when I find some good info I print it out. Well, the problem is that I usually end up loosing that paper because my desk is full of the stuff…and Hey! I’m a geek and if it’s worth having then it is worth having in electronic form.
So I plan to use this blog as a place to store tips, tricks, changes, tests and other stuff. Not to mention a place to vent the many frustrations that seem to come up. I’d also like it to be a sounding board to get other’s ideas if anyone eventually reads this other than me.
So, here it goes…
