EnterpriseOne Minimum Technical Requirements

my oracle support Recently, I found that the Minimum Technical Requirements for Oracle EnterpriseOne to be a little difficult to track down.

So I thought I should create a post about it here so that I don’t have to waste a bunch of time looking for it.

If I remember I did this, anyway.

Oracle Give Away Extended Support

I got this email this morning:

Dear EnterpriseOne Customer,

During the recent COLLABORATE conference Oracle President Charles Phillips announced that Oracle will waive first year Extended Support fees for certain product lines. This includes 8.11 and 8.11 SP1 for EnterpriseOne.

What is Extended Support?
Many legacy programs are supported under Oracle’s Lifetime Support Policy. This means that when Premier Support ends, you may continue to receive updates, and legislative and regulatory fixes for an additional three years under Oracle’s Extended Support. Please be sure to review Oracle’s Lifetime Support Policy for details regarding each release.

How Does this Affect You?
All customers currently using EnterpriseOne 8.11 and 8.11 SP1 will have the first year of their Extended Support fee waived. After that you will have the option of continuing your Extended Support service, and can contact your Support Sales representative to initiate the purchasing process.

For more information, please review the following article on MetaLink 3, NOTE: 778948.1, or contact Global Customer Support for further questions.

I wonder if you still get the HelpDesk101-type support when you first call?  I’m not trying to be negative, but you know what I mean:

  • Have you applied all the ESUs?
  • Have you modified the object?
  • Are you on the latest ?
  • Could you send me a full set of logs for both the web server and the enterprise server? – Yeah, sure. Have funning going through 2 GB of TEXT!

Anyway, it may be a good deal.

JD Edwards Advisor has 3 Final Takeaways from OpenWorld 2008

October 22, 2008 by Stewart Schatz · Leave a Comment
Filed under: Oracle OpenWorld

The final 3 takeways from The Advisor seem to center around EnterpriseOne getting more attention from both the Oracle development teams and the Oracle sales teams:

  1. The EnterpriseOne and World development teams are adopting a more collaborative approach to how they enhance the two product suites
  2. Oracle is reviving its initiative to encourage selected World customers to migrate to EnterpriseOne.
  3. After three years of playing a distant “second fiddle” to E-Business Suite, EnterpriseOne gaining traction with Oracle’s field force.

The JD Edwards Advisor’s Analysis Of Oracle OpenWorld 2008

openworld.150 Once again the Advisor gives us some great insight to Oracle’s OpenWorld 2008.  Lee came up with 4 things that he thought were the top takeaways:

  1. Oracle’s roadmap for applications remains clear and promising.
  2. Oracle is shifting its focus from making strategic pronouncements to executing on them.
  3. New functions for Oracle’s ERP suites will increasingly be delivered via edge applications, standalone tools, and software as a service (SaaS).
  4. Fusion Applications will be available soon. However, many customers will care less…and Oracle won’t be offended.

Be sure to read the entire article.

Linux Virtual Server At Oracle OpenWorld

September 24, 2008 by Stewart Schatz · Leave a Comment

lvs4p-200 Late afternoon yesterday, I attended a session at Oracle OpenWorld called " Web Server High Availability with Oracle Enterprise ".  It was given by Marcelo Tamassia, CD Group, Inc. Oracle Technology Manager, and Tony Price, Carolina Biological Supply.

They explained a technology called Linux Virtual Server (LVS).  LVS is used as a low cost load balancing and high availability solution.  Fortunately, it is available in most kernels.  So, you can use it even if you don’t have Oracle Enterprise .

Essentially, it is two low-end servers or high-end workstations that are running LVS placed between the end user and your web servers.  This little cluster is used as a sort of proxy to direct traffic to the web servers.

I hope to give more info on this as I play around with it.

Oracle OpenWorld Attendance Tips

September 16, 2008 by Stewart Schatz · Leave a Comment

Lee Kroon, on The JD Edwards Advisor, has some great tips on getting the most out of your attendance of Oracle OpenWorld.  Below is a quick rundown, but go to the article to get the details.

  1. Stay close to the hotel where most of the sessions take place.
    - I think this one is really important.  Even though it is usually more expensive, try to stay in a hotel within walking distance to all your activities.  Its is well worth it.
  2. Plan what sessions you will attend in advance.
  3. Save space in your schedule for some hot sessions.
  4. Use the session schedule to figure out what big announcements Oracle is going to make.
  5. Start networking now.
  6. Bring (or buy) your own water container.
